Job satisfaction, insimple words is an individuals emotional reaction to the job itself. It is a set of favorable or unfavorable feelings with which the employees view their work. When a person says that he has high job satisfaction, it means that he really like his job feels good about it and values his job highly.Job satisfaction has been defined as a pleasurable emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one’s job,an affective reaction to one’s job and an attitude towards one’s job.Imagine you are the branch manager of a large bank. You want to improve both job satisfaction and job performance in your branch. Job satisfaction is one of the most investigated topics in the fields of organizational behaviour. The most-used research definition of job satisfaction is by Locke (1976), who defined it as “. a pleasurable or positive emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one’s job or job experiences” (p. 1304).While according to Spector, job satisfaction is defined as the extent to which people like (satisfaction) or dislike (dissatisfaction) their jobs (Spector, 1997, p. 2).
Within the literature, one of the first definitions of job satisfaction were described by (Hoppock, 1935), when he defined the construct as being any number of psychological, physiological, and environmental circumstances which leads a person to express satisfaction with their job.
